"Trouble is the first collaboration between Paul Belbusti of the Mercy Choir and Lys Guillorn, both Connecticut singer-songwriters. The pair recorded three songs with acoustic instruments "bluegrass style" around one microphone in Paul Belbusti's living room with minimal overdubs added afterward by Belbusti.
Belbusti says, "I've been wanting to work with Lys for a while, and I expect to work with her more in the future. I figured the easy way to get things going was to do a 3 song EP and have the 2 originals come from a 50/50 collaborative place. The Soft Boys track is a favorite of both of ours."
Guillorn adds, "I’d had a period of writer’s block, and having this kind of assignment helped get me through it. Paul sent me lyrics almost right away, so that was like throwing down the gauntlet. I had to pony up or look like a jackass."
"Trouble" features lyrics written by Guillorn and music written by Belbusti; "Communion" features Belbusti's lyrics and Guillorn's music. "I Wanna Destroy You" is a Soft Boys/Robyn Hitchcock cover with Belbusti and Guillorn singing harmony throughout."

It’s hard to improve on The ‘Oo but this version hits the right balance between homage and innovation. The guitar sound offers a jangly mid-60s authenticity but the sweeter backing vocals reveal a complexity to the gender confusion that makes it feel entirely up to date...
