"From what crooked shack did Mercy Choir's "GGUITAR" issue? Throughout its slim duration, we hear the guitar as an instrument, object, and myth. It is revered as a beauty-producer and hammered into base matter. The guitar can diverge. It can pummel the listener into submission when wielded by a doom band, express an idea in the hands of an artist, or become an object of abuse itself when subjected to the extended techniques of free improvisation. Bizarrely, and pleasingly, this range is on full display in "GGUITAR." Mercy Choir exorcises the guitar, manipulates its conception in the abstract, and comes down to earth to deliver these eight tracks to us. Let's listen."
